Armitania, officially the Republic of Armitania and Xiwang Shan (Armitanian: Gora te Armitania ya Shiwang Shan), is a country located in eastern central Antarephia along the Asperic Ocean. It borders AN137e and AN137h to the north, AN137i and AN146 to the east and AN137g to the south. The largest city is Armitania City, which also serves as the nation's most prominent port city. Its largest deep sea port though is in the second largest city, Aranka, just to the south of Armitania. Armitania's government is a semi-presidential republic with powers split between the head of state and the parliament. The seat of the legislative branch and most government facilities are concentrated in Armitania with nearly all national broadcasters also situated there. Freedom to worship and proselytize other faiths is guaranteed by the constitution. The country encompasses three special territories with special rights, the Armitania Capital Territory encompassing the centre of the Armitania City Metro, the Xiwang Shan Territory, home to the Shan people in the southwest of the country and the Austrolasian Territories in the Asperic Ocean. The Arma River, the largest and most significant river, supplies the large irrigation network of the country. It connects to the sea in Armitania City, forming the large delta the city is built on.
Geography
Natural Geography
Nearly all of Armitania is situated along a flat plain, with small hills near the country's centre sharply turning into tall peaks in the far southwest. Combined with a mild, warm climate with large amounts of rain all year, uncommon snowfall and regular sediment depositing by spring floods in September and October, the country hosts a large agricultural industry focused on beef, sheep, rice and grains. The tallest peak is along the Border to AN123.
Armitania is a subtropical country with a humid and moderate climate. The southwest is cooler and more continental due to the more mountainous terrain, reaching up to nearly 2000 metres above sea level. The summers are warmer and wetter than the winters, but both seasons experience high levels of rainfall.
The country’s landscape is diverse, featuring the two large bays, which are large natural harbours and home to sandy beaches, lagoons, and barrier islands that host the country its large shipping industry. The Arma River is the main source of water and irrigation for the country. The river flows into the Armitania Delta, which is the most populous and productive area of the country. The agricultural industry benefits from the fertile soil and the water supply. The rest of the country consists of fertile plains and rolling hills that gradually transition into the mountainous southwest.
Human Geography
Armitania’s capital and largest city is at the centre of a megalopolis located on the Delta of the Arma River. The city is the junction point of two high-density population corridors that form an upside-down L. The first corridor follows the course of the Large Northern River, while the second one runs along the bay.
The main population areas are along the Arma and the coast, with population densities reaching from 1400 to 3000 people per square kilometre. In the capital area, neighbourhoods with densities over 30000 inhabitants per square kilometre are not uncommon with the densest peaking slightly above 50000 people per square kilometre.
The country has an impressive railway network that has been preserved from its historical legacy. The railway system is the main mode of transportation in the country, as the road infrastructure is underdeveloped and congested. However, the country has started to build its first limited-access highways in recent decades.
The country does not have a high-speed rail network yet, but construction on a route starting from the capital is under construction.
The country is highly centralized to the capital, which is the political, economic, and cultural hub of the country. An autonomous territory is situated in the mountains of the southwest, with its own local government since 1978 and Shan identity. The Xingwan Shan is a distinct region of the country, with its own history and culture and large mining industry.
The Islands to the East are summer-peak tourist spots and have had their autonomy since 1978.
History
The history of Armitania is marked by the migration of Shan people into the fertile flatlands where the native Armitanians were living. Centuries of conflict raged between the people. However, over the last two thousand years, the groups started to mix and assimilate, creating a homogeneous language and cultural mix. The culture of the native people was based on farming, while the migrants had a nomadic lifestyle. In the mountains of the Southwest, the area is still inhabited by the descendants of the Shan migrants. The far islands to the east also have an autonomous government and culture, populated by Austrolasians.
