The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country |
User: AnimationSky
Proposed Name: Reaskuskjo
Physical geography | |

An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
Link for climate and major routes (road/rail) and major city plans here -> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LWprtlszjzJkWN4JFKGZx-l5aPDcFf3c?usp=sharing
Climate: A significant portion of Reaskuskjo will be of the Cfb Oceanic climate Type. In the north, humidity from the rivers and warmer temperatures allow for a Cfa Humid Subtropical climate type, and cooler temperatures and higher elevations in the southeast regions of the country allow for a Cfc Subpolar Oceanic climate type.
Topography: The topography of Reaskuskjo will adhere to the plans for Central Antarephia. There is the tail end of the large central mountain range on the east side of the country with elevations between 1-2km, and a smaller range exists on the northwest border of the country with Jorisko, with elevations between 0.5-1km.
Hydrology: The current hydrology will be preserved as it already conforms with the plans for Central Antarephia.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
Reaskuskjo, for all intents and purposes, can be split into two countries as seen in the Major routes & cities plan. The western portion has a much higher HDI, GDP PPP, and population, with HDI and GDP PPP figures resembling that of Norway. The western half of the country has a population of 6,000,000 people. The eastern half of the country will be more akin to Bosnia and Herzegovina in terms of HDI and GDP PPP. The east side will have a population of 2,000,000 people. Average figures for HDI are 0.913, and the average GDP PPP is $62,724. Reaskuskjo has a total population of 8,000,000 people. Reaskuskjo will be a flawed democracy that, while mostly democratic, still suffers with mild corruption and unfair treatment and equity, specifically with the eastern portion of the country. I plan to map Reaskuskjo as a Scandinavian styled country, and the country will have an administrative region system similar to that of Sweden.
History & culture | |
---|---|
A brief description of the intended culture and language |
Language & culture: Reaskuskjo will use the same conlang (Sjéparuso) as neighbouring Jorisko. Culture is also quite similar as intellects are quite highly favoured in society, however rail transit is not sought after quite as much. The main mode of transit will be personal vehicles, however public transport and personal alternatives such as mopeds, bicycles, and scooters are also relatively popular, especially in the western half of the country.
History: Reaskuskjo as it is today actually consists of two countries that were seperate up until the mid 20th century. When the eastern country discovered various precious materials such as gold, silver, and other notable ores such as uranium in the mountains, Reaskuskjo decided to forcefully invade the country to harvest and exploit these resources. Tensions between the two countries had grown slowly over the century, and this was the tipping point for Reaskuskjo to take over. The former capital was sieged, and the government was overthrown. The decision to annex the former country into Reaskuskjo was made shortly after, and gained popular support as the government promised to preserve the environment and keep rivers clean, as well as bring economic development to the area. The former government had been notorious for being extremely corrupt, and treating citizens poorly. Many feared that careless mining operations in the mountains would cause the rivers to become polluted, so the citizens welcomed the new government easily. Unfortunately, wealth equity between the two halves still prospers today, and the eastern economy has barely grown. The Reaskuskjo government does enough to keep the east from revolting, but not enough to improve life conditions to the level of the western half.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful | |
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL. |
I intend for Reaskuskjo to be a replacement for my current territory, Oronotia (AR120-52), which is a state in the FSA. While I do not have any examples of European style mapping, I do have examples of natural mapping that will be used in Reaskuskjo.

Discussion for clarification & decision |
After having a couple days to carefully think about some of these plans, I wanted to clarify that the highway plan is heavily subject to change and will most likely see a lot of redundant and parallel routes downgraded and/or removed entirely. All of the motorways will remain unchanged though.
Thank you once again for your consideration, and if you require any further clarification or have any further questions, please let me know and I will respond ASAP.

- Hi AnimationSky, thank you for your request.
A few remarks/questions:
- Physical geography
- Climate: indeed, AN142i is likely to be mostly oceanic. I'm unsure about the Cfa zone because it's still west of the continent and west of the mountains. Cfc is mostly seen at higher latitude but seems to be encountered on the "mid-altitude" slopes of the Cascade Range in Washington, so it could make sense on some mountains facing west but not on a extended area. As for Cfa, the difference with Cfb in the mapping would be minimal: maybe more conifers forests?
- Topography: the mountain chain that draws part of the border with AN148 is bit lower that 2,000m so that westerlies can flow over and temper the land east of it. For example, the highest peak was given a 1,491m elevation a bit over a year ago to remain below 1,500m. The idea was to have a few massifs that are high enough to have snow almost every winter (e.g. so people can draw ski resorts if they want to) with the rest of the mountain chains having lower 750-1,000m elevations (real-world mountains could be the Vosges in France or the Coastal Ranges in Oregon or Washington for the Western side). For course, actual altitude are editable by owners as long as it doesn't modify substantially the continental overview.
- Hydrology: a few international rivers already have their corresponding relation.
- Human geography: I'm unsure you can have a B&H-like area next to a Norway-rich one in a single country. Maybe in a dictatorship that completely excludes part of the population in a given region. Even in a flawed democracy, economic development/public investment would have affected the eastern part to a certain point.
- History & culture: AN142i will not be split into further territories. You may still choose to imagine separate predecessor states. Just a personal (not Admin's) point of view: add more historical elements to the East/West antagonism to the mining-only trigger to annexation. Maybe border and/or trade issues going back 100y, 200y or more. I would put the annexation a bit earlier that the 1950s to coincide with the potential early stages of the World War (the 1910s? 1920s?) though not necessarily directly related to this world conflict.
- Past Mapping: Thanks for all the examples! Given that you haven't mapped European-style cities do you feel confident in mapping European-like cities, towns and villages (I use the term 'European-like' because most Antarephian cities are likely to have, as most European cities, layers/circles of historical neighbourhoods built over centuries/millennia vs. mostly-planned cities in the USA or Canada) in "large" numbers? AN142i is roughly as large as the Republic of Ireland which means the mapping of those would need to be reasonably important in quantity and regular to start seeing something substantial on the map vs. on a smaller territory. --Aiki (talk) 13:10, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
To answer your questions and acknowledge your remarks:
- Physical Geography
- Clinate: I can remove the Cfa zone entirely or and add a Cfc zone in the tops of the western mountain with the rest of the country being in the Cfb zone if that's what you're concerned about. I'm still not super well versed with climate types and how/where they form..
- Topography: I figured about as much, it was a bit difficult to see on the Central Antarephia plan hence why I said between 1-2 km, but now that I know the highest point (I assume?) on the border of AN142i and AN148 is just shy of 1.5km, I'll keep the mountains closer to that altitude.
- Hydrology: Thanks for letting me know! I'll check out which rivers do.
- Human geography: You bring up a fair point. I'd be willing to lower the HDI on the west side by a bit and increase the HDI on the east side to make them more even, but I still want to maintain an area of stark wealth divide. Perhaps there could've been some sort of past dictatorship or autocratic leadership that severely marginalized the east up until the 2000s to help preserve the divide? It's something for me to thing about.
- History & Culture: Yes, that's what I mean. I don't wish for AN142i to be split in two at this time, but historically I was looking at having two predecessor states. As for what led up to the annexation, I do intend on writing about the tensions in the future to help detail why the annexation happened, with mining operations being the tipping point.
- Past Mapping: Absolutely! I feel ready to take on European style cities and showcasing the different types of neighbourhoods that developed over hundreds of years.
If you have any other further remarks or questions, I'll respond to them as soon as possible, and I hope you enjoyed your weekend offline.

- Hi,
- Physical Geography
- Climate: No need to update anything, it was just a remark. When you need real-world example, have look at western side of continent (mostly north hemisphere as the south one gives less examples for this latitude). That may help you in your mapping.
- Topography: as said, the highest point may be moved (or it can be the highest point just for AN142i) and its actual altitude changes within the range. It was mapped to give an idea. Side note, altitudes are generally given in metres and not kilometres in SI, as Imperial systems uses feet over other units.
- Hydrology: I wanted to post the query results for the corresponding relations but the overpass turbo seems to have some issues at the moment. Here are those I remember: river flowing from AN146 and its provisional system. It's debatable if the latter needs to be kept.
- Human geography: you may also decide that for a long time, wealth generated from the mines benefited more those in the capital city (e.g. large public projects, directors, businessmen) than those on site. Things like that happened in the real world, for example the British Midlands vs. Inner London (preferable its West part). Without using the dictatorship trick, you may still have differences some 100=200km apart as in the UK regions so we stay with the same example. It doesn't mean that you don't have pockets of wealth or poverty with a given region, but it gives you an idea. --Aiki (talk) 20:16, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
