The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country |
AR060-04 Newcambry
Physical geography | |
---|---|
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
The territory is extremely mountainous, with ridges stretching North-South along most of the area not too different from the Appalachians. In the north the ridges mellow out to smaller hills, eventually becoming the rolling hills towards the coast. The south connects with the range along the border with Ateria. The main feature of the territory is a massive impact crater as a result of an event some millions of years ago that resulted in an oval shaped ring lake with an island in the middle of roughly 1000 square km. This crater also disrupts the ridges and forms a semi-flat area in the middle. In addition, the crater results in the area being very rich in rare minerals and geological formations. Secondary impact craters to the Northeast in Agawaskway is already mapped such as Lake Sultry and Heartbreak Lake. Climate wise the area is similar to the Appalachians and most of the rural area is covered in forest.
A (very rough) sketch can be found here also including some human geography.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
There will be around 4.5 million people in Newcambry. The population centre of Newcambry is located in and around the crater, as this is the only flat land available in almost the entire province. The only other area with significant urban population is around Odeka River to the East. As shown in the sketch, twin cities located on either side of the ring lake and their associated metro area make up more than 3 million people, with the rest of the province being mostly rural. The geography limits urban settlements to be densely packed following the shape of the topography, and farming is limited as there is not a big availability of fertile soil. However, due to the previously mentioned abundance in minerals, there will be large mining operations as well as associated infrastructure, such as railways. Newcambry is also important as a route between Ateria and North Shore Ouanatchkan and the rest of the country, as such, there are multiple motorways (especially TDH 2, 4) and intercity railways passing through the province despite the difficult terrain.
The main industry in the province is mining (including some oil and gas) and its associated services. Recently, environmental friendly mining practices and revitalization efforts has brought back economic development. Global demand of rare earth minerals along with natural gas has also caused a increase in both population and GDP.
History & culture | |

A brief description of the intended culture and language |
The first people to settle in Newcambry are the Aitun (Innu in real life) people. They treat the area surrounding the crater as sacred due to special minerals that can be found here. When the first settlers from Uletha came, they quickly learned about the minerals in the crater, and a large mining boom followed in early 19th century. The province was named Newcambry with the reconization of people from Cambric cultures settling here to engage in the mining industry. The colonial government quickly realized the importance of the resources in the area and quickly set up settlements in and around the crater. The mining industry experienced several booms throughout history which influenced the up and downs of the entire province. A period of oppression of the First Nation peoples occured during the early stages of development along with the mining boom. However, in modern day, great efforts has been done to reverse the damage done to both the cultural and environmental aspects of the Aitun sacred land within the crater.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful | |
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL. |

Nakah - I request a territory swap with Nakah AR914 as I have been putting off that project for almost a year and now all out of ideas.

Discussion for clarification & decision |
- Please note that I have discussed this application with the rest of Deodeca mappers, although I realize that there are more details that needs to be figured out if this application is approved. Kengoman (talk) 14:51, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Looking forward to this project! I would suggest Dfa in the north, Dfb in the south and mountainous areas, and Dfc at mountaintops, which lines up with your "Appalachian" climate idea. Also would suggest a highway connection towards Bennantown which we can figure out later. Diamantschiff (talk) 14:57, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
