AR120-47 - Illuvia

Back in August I was able to get a probationary period on the territory AR120-47. I have been mapping a portion of the allowed territory, and I would like to formally request a review to receive full control of AR120-47.

Illuvia is an oddly shaped state in the West Lakes/Heartland region of the FSA. Overall, Illuvia is a farming centered state, with relatively wet climate similar to the central and eastern Midwest.

Southern, and especially southwestern Illuvia is wetter than that of eastern and northeastern Illuvia due to the Great Lakes influence. Southern Illuvia is also slightly colder than northern Illuvia.

The center, and thinnest portion of the state, is comprised of low mountains. These mountains are more like foothills. They are hilly enough to prevent farming of any large scale, but are low enough for cattle roaming and human settlement in most places. The hills are thinnest at the center of the state, and bulge out at the top and bottom of the state.The northernmost point of Minnonigan and thinnest point in Illuvia will have the last significant peak on the mountain range.

The hills in the center of Illuvia are generally comprised of limestone, with many mineralls mixed in, especially dirty coal.

Far western Illuvia also has a small hills range. They run from Wadeville in Deodeca to most of the way to Ingram, to the northeast. These hills are similar to the central mountains, but has much sandier soils. They are like the Loess hills in western Iowa, but larger.

Eastern Illuvia's south is more populated than other portions of the state. as a pass-through state from the northern states to the Great Lakes, along the Akogama River, Illuvia gets much traffic travelling between other states.

The capitol of Illuvia, (Armot?), is located west of the Akogama river, on the convergance of the Aquilla and an unnamed river. The capitol will be cut with a controlled access highway from Nenova to Micksbourough, as well as one from Eriksburg to Gleason. The capitol is the most populous city in the state.

The secondmost populous city in Illuvia is Micksbourough (Possibly N or W Micksbourough if necessary). The city is on the convergance of the Akogama the Walkegan rivers. The city spans three states, and is a central hub for transport.

Other populous cities are Crinxton, in the center of the state, Ingram, in the northwest along Clamash, Gleason, on the border of Minnonigan and Iroquesia, and a possible city where Dos Rios is in the southwest.

There are a few exurbs of cities in other states that are located in Illuvia. There are a few towns along the Deodecian border that are exurbs of Fayette, and a few around Nenova.

Illuvia also has many towns and small villages located scattered around the state.

Eastern Illuvia is laid out on a completely grid system, laid out for convenience and simplicity. Western Illuvia is gridded for some of the eastern half, but far western Illuvia is aligned with older grid systems in Deodeca.

Much of Old central Illuvia (in the east) is fertile farmland. Crops most associated with eastern Illuvia are Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, and Alfalfa. Western Illuvia is also fertile, but has more cattle and hog farming lands. Farmland here is mostly comprised of leafy vegetables, beans, peas, and corn.

Eastern Illuvia is the oldest part of Illuvia. Illuvia itself was admitted statehood in the 1830s, remaining from other, split up territories. Illuvia's population has never been higher than any of the states surrounding it. The capitol of Illuvia at this time was first located in Micksbourough, but quickly moved to a new capitol in Armot. Armot grew larger at this time, becoming the largest city in Illuvia.

Western Illuvia was included in the Clamash Purchase in 1842. The northern portion of this territory was created into the state of Clamash in 1866. Because this portion of Clamash did not have enough population to create it's own state, and it did not want to merge with greater Clamach, a few years later the southern portion of the Clamash Territory merged with Illuvia. This did however cause Illuvia to be split almost into two, with many population centers in western Illuvia having to travel through Minnonigan to get to eastern Illuvia and the capital.

Eastern Illuvia has a high German and Scandinavian influence, and German is often spoken in more rural areas which have had less modern settlement. Ingerish is still the most commonly spoken language here.

Western Illuvia has a much higher French influence and is highly tied to Deodeca. This causes issues with FSA border security, as there are many non-protected crossings of the border because of historical roads and towns.

The differences in cultures can cause issues in the government of Illuvia, and often the two houses end in a stalemate if there is no bipartisan support.

As your potential neighbor, I think your mapping is quite nice and fits in the Midwest/Western style, and your application incorporates the mapping of -47's many neighbors. Most of my comments will be regarding the western half of Illuvia since I own Clamash. I am originally from eastern Nebraska so I am quite familiar with western Iowa, especially the Loess Hills.

History - The history of western Illuvia lines up with the Clamash Purchase and Clamash statehood nicely. The only thing I don't necessarily understand is the higher French influence in western Illuvia.

Geography - I would like to work with you and plainoldbread (if you get the state) on the watershed of the rivers in southern Clamash, western Illuvia, and western Nawagan. The coal deposits in central Illuvia works well with the coal deposits of southeast Clamash. The rolling hills in western Illuvia match those in southern Clamash. The Cordilleras are essentially foothills in southern Clamash. You may want to review the Wychelle territory application.

Ingram - Firstly, I am not necessarily committed to the name Ingram, so if you want to change it, that is fine with me. What is the proposed population of the city? Also, it would be nice to see the proposed populations for each major community on the plan

More closely looking at other territory applications, I think that western Illuvia likely has less of a French/Franquese influence than I originally thought, but it still may be more connected to Deodeca than other parts of the territory. I think instead it may have a slightly higher Ingerrish population.

The population of Illuvia will be about 3.5M-4M.

- Armot (The capitol) will have a population around 375K-425K, similar to the size of the Davenport-Moline area.

- Ingram will be reduced in size now, likely to only about 25K population, with possibly a smaller town next to it. I plan on changing the name to something else in the future.

- The city where Dos Rios is now will have about 40K.

- Crinxton has about a 20-25K population.

- the Illuvia portion of Gleason will be reduced to about 90K.

- the Illuvia portion of Micksbourough will have a population of about 65K.

Hey Robert, neighbour to the south here, Aces California for Iroquesia. I'm mighty impressed with your rural work! The details and layout you used work really well. For me, the settlements could be better designed, to me it feels at a macro-scale it's out-of-scale, but that comes with experience.

I see you have considered the foothills that stretch down from Gleason across the southern-central area, into Iroquesia, so I am fine with that aspect! As for the rest of the Iroquesia border with Illuvia, I haven't much planned what will be going on that border, but apart from Mickbourough there won't be any large cities that cross the border.

I'd very happily work with you on planning out the infrastructure of this border region together, as well as whatever you have planned for Gleason, and Micksbourough. In fact, with the intentions that Micksbourough will be a major three-state crossing metro-area, and being the only other active user currently who would be mapping it, I would like to collaborate on this the most.

The final point I'd like to raise regarding the Iroquesia influence on Illuvia is the presence and influence of native-peoples in the area. My intentions for Iroquesia have not been highly planned out yet, but I intend to have them be a present and active influence in the hilly northern parts of Iroquesia, but without representation e.g. Reservations. So this influence would mainly be towards place-names and privatly-owned cultural sites and landmarks. The culture that the native-peoples in Iroquesia are based on are the Potawatomi peoples of Michigan.

Other than that, I have been keeping track of your mapping, and as said, do love how you map rurally! And can't wait to see how you improve going forward, especially with your urban mapping.

	Keep in mind that the Federal States of Archanta is a large, collaborative project; as such, continued activity and coordination with other stateowners is a crucial part of the project's success.
