An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar) |
The North and East of the country (the coasts) are flat regions with a few chains of small hills in the North. The center and the south of the country are a little steep, with some mountains in the south and southwest and large hilly areas in the center. The climate is of the southern France type and varies in "two" seasons: winter and summer. The autumns are very short and punctuated by violent storms and very strong winds. Springs are also short, but the weather of this season varies from year to year, ranging from continuous rain to near-heat waves, through "normal" springs. Winters are harsh with fairly frequent snowstorms and violent blizzards. Temperatures vary between -19°C and 4°C. Summers are very hot with numerous heat waves with peaks of 47°C, and dotted with numerous very virulent thunderstorms in the north. The averages are between 27°C and 44°C. The calendar of the seasons is as follows:
Spring: April to early May
summer: Mid-May to end of September
Fall: October
Winter: November to end of March
The landscape is almost the same everywhere in the country, namely a mixture of forests and meadows, with leafy trees in the north and center and many more conifers in the south. The South is made up of medium mountains (the highest peak is at 1997m). The center looks like wide hilly and forested plains with many lakes and rivers, and the coasts have a clearly Mediterranean landscape. The fauna and flora is similar to that found in France or Germany.
The largest river in the country, the Virdoule, is almost 450 km long and has an average width of 67 meters. It has its source in the Virdoule gorges, in the center-west of the country and flows into St Paul's bay, to the east. Halfway along the river is the medium-sized town of Port-Virdoule, where the only real river port (industrial and commercial) in the country is located.

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style |
The country is divided into 5 administrative regions: La Côte du Nord (north), Rives d'Est (east), Les Grands Monts (south), Val Ouest (west), Les Lacs (center). Each region contains several departments (or counties for the North region). The North and the Center are the most populated regions with approximately 18 million inhabitants. The south and the mountains are "semi-rural" regions, with several medium-sized towns and a huge number of small villages (the smallest village has 899 inhabitants). The East is a totally rural region, dotted with more or less large villages and small towns (the largest town being Fauvignac with 19,900 inhabitants). The west is an almost "empty" region. There are many nature reserves thanks to its lakes, waterfalls, causses and gorges. The region has only 77,500 inhabitants. The country's capital, Montalès, is a very large city with around 1.5 million inhabitants. The city has been established in the Côtes du Nord region for nearly 2,500 years.
The country is very rich and has a very strong economy thanks to its many deposits of titanium, uranium, bauxite and oil in huge quantities. The average annual GDP per capita is around $60,300. The country also has huge productions of wood, olives, wheat and also animal products. They are the world's largest exporters of olive oil and other olive products.
The economic Geography of the country is very distinct: The North and the Center are the richest regions of the country, as well as the East (at a relatively lower level than the North / Center) for its agricultural production. The West is the most precarious region of the country, due to its rurality and its remoteness from the rest of the country. The mountainous regions of the South are at an average economic level, but have been for a very long time at the same level of poverty as the West. Mining activities and winter tourism have enabled the region to experience a major economic boom since 1970.
The country literally has "factory fields", namely huge industrial areas, mainly metallurgical and petrochemical. They are mostly located in the center of the country, but there are a few in the north. The country has two huge ZIPs (industrial-port zones), in Port-la-Neuve in the north and St André de Rolgnac in the south-east. There is also a river port on the Virdoule river at Port-Virdoule (centre/east).
the style of cartography is similar to that of the South of France (Cévennes, Languedoc-Roussillion and western Provence)

A brief description of the intended culture and language |
The country's history dates back to prehistoric times, when several tribes (Gallic/Celtic styles) settled in the north of the country, in Baie des Ours, where the national capital would be located much later. The tribes became sedentary and continued to develop, demographically and technologically, until reaching the middle of antiquity. There, many tribes begin to form separate governments and countries, and many turf wars break out. Christianity begins to establish itself in the country and very quickly imposes itself as the only religion, the polytheistic rites are quickly abandoned, which will also cause many conflicts. Finally, a country imposes itself, that of Adelus. Varsas Oliarac, Paramount Ruler of Adelus proclaims himself the first King of Adelus and servant of God. In the Middle Ages, a feudal system and an Occitan-style culture began to emerge. many castles and abbeys are built, and towns and villages are born everywhere. A nerve center appears around 1250 AD, which was before a cluster of suburbs and hamlets and became in 200 years a huge city of 500,000 inhabitants. The King of that time, Philippe Orchas, decided to name this new emerging city Montadélus. Technologies, beliefs, demography, language and traditions continue to evolve until reaching the low renaissance, around 1500 AD. A new language is essential in the country in this period, Occitan. almost everyone will speak it in 40 years. New currents of Christianity appear, and unlike many countries, religious freedoms (as long as they are Christian) are fully respected.
The power of the Royalty will weaken more and more between 1570 and 1765, the year in which the last king will die. In the meantime, more power was granted to the people, a national assembly was created and the seigneuries were abolished in favor of administrative regions and counties, managed by Deputies of the National Assembly and also by prefects. Before dying, Louis Obrézons, alias The Last of the Kings, ordered on his will to elect by universal male suffrage a new leader of the country at his death. This caused a major political upheaval, creating a kind of civil war between royalists and democrats between 1766 and 1768. The two camps managed to find an agreement and peace was returned. A president of the Assembly, the head of state, was elected on May 4, 1769 "by and for the people". The newly elected president renames his country Adélia, because the old Latin name is too "antic".
It is in the industrial and modern era that the country develops even more, old small towns become large metropolises, large mines appear and with them many small towns. A huge natural disaster in the center and south of the country (a storm similar to a Cevennes episode) will cause 550 deaths and the almost total destruction of the largest city in the South at the time, Jourdaville. Today, this city has again become a village of 1300 inhabitants, where there is a huge memorial with a giant sculpture of the old city, as well as a museum.
The period 1890-1970 was quite calm, the rising economy exploded following the discovery of huge oil deposits in the center-east of the country. Industries pululent and pollution with it, and great ecological movements are born then, creating great tensions. The 1980s were the source of the country's last conflict, a second civil war over oil, between supporters of green energy and those of oil. An ideological conflict on the theme of ecology between 1974 and 1982 will lead to numerous attacks and conflicts between citizens giving rise to bloody butcheries. The total number of victims is 3,400 dead and more than 10,000 injured. The conflict will end in July '82 after a long weariness of war. Numerous memorials in honor of the victims were built, the most famous being the site of the building of Oreva-corp, the biggest national oil lobby of the time. A bomb attack will destroy the building and cause 1967 deaths. Today, this conflict seems to be (deliberately) forgotten by everyone, and the population is doing wonderfully. Unfortunately, the pollution is reaching critical levels in some places, and the danger to nature is increasing day by day, mainly in the east of the country.
Adelia is currently a Mediterranean-style country, with a culture similar to that of the French region of Cévennes and Languedoc. Many festivals specific to this country take place each year, in particular the Votive Festival of St Jean, on June 24, composed of many parades, medieval tournaments and toromachy to finish at the beginning of the night on a huge brazier accompanied by songs and dances. There is also the Féria de l'Ascenssion, from May 20 to 25, with bullfights, toro-piscine, rodeos, horse races and night parades. In winter we find the Festival of Arts, in the Christmas period, rewarding all types of arts, from cinema to painting. Celebrity parades take place, free film screenings, mass exhibitions and book and comic/manga conventions take place.
The speaked languages in Adélia is the French (89%) and the Occitan (11%)

Approved. However, and this is especially important given the weight of information you have given above, remember that BG territories are for building up experience only. They are not for long term mapping. Thanks/wangi (talk) 12:52, 28 June 2023 (UTC) | |
