History

  • The early population of the northern side of the mountains was related to that of Saikyel with Uralic elements.
  • 40000 BC, early population settles in Lantian Peninsula and modern day Orinoco shortly after.
  • Around 500-1000AD Germanic settlers came through Midistland and quickly conquered the local tribes and established various fiefdoms, in the east of Blönland and in Saikyel it took a shape similar to the real life German "Ostkolonisation".
  • Ingerish Empire conquers Lantian Peninsula in 8th century. Gave major Ingerish influence to North Lantian and Orinoco, however South Lantian and Nihonish remained normal.
  • The Kingdom of Remsfalen was established sometime in the 11th-13th centuries.
  • The Kingdom of Blönland was established by Count Rupprecht von Burgenau in 1461 who was elected by the Knighthoods (Ritterschaften) of central Blönland to become the first King, to guarantee the independence of Blönland from Remsfalen which was getting stronger and stronger.
  • There likely was some HRE equivalent, but maybe also not.
  • Dasgrundia (Canterra) gains independence in 1624, Lantian Peninsula joins shortly after.
  • Blönland vassalized and annexed Saikyel and UL28h sometime in the 16th-18th centuries.
  • There were frequent border changes until the 18th century, with constant wars, and countries often splitting up and combining again. One such separation was when during a succession debate in Remsfalen, a younger son of the King was given the easternmost part of the kingdom to rule as a separate Grand Duchy, in a "secundogeniture", much in the same way the small principalities of Germany came to be. It became the Grand Duchy of Remsfalen-Lüningen. He established his own cadet branch.
  • In 1850 the cadet branch owning Remsfalen-Lüningen died out in the male line with the death of the Grand Duke. He had a sister who was married to the King of Blönland. The constitution of Remsfalen-Lüningen said that in the event of the Grand Ducal House dying out the Grand Duchy will revert to the King of Remsfalen. The King of Blönland, Georg I, alleged that there was an agreement between him and his brother-in-law that upon his death the Grand Duchy will fall to him.
  • There was a war that lasted until about 1852-1853 which Blönland won, likely with the support of Luthesien, Samane and UL28a which wanted to weaken Remsfalen which was the strongest Kalmish country in East Uletha at that time. The King Georg I of Blönland was crowned Grand Duke of Remsfalen-Lüningen in Collenburg on February 6th 1854. Initially it was just a personal union and he guaranteed to the Lüningish Nobility autonomy.
  • In 1856 King Georg I died. His successor Friedrich-Alexander II was weaker and unpopular, partly because of his morganatic marriage to a non-royal woman. This prompted the Kingdom of Remsfalen to invade Blönland in 1860, the war lasted until 1862 and was ended with a peace treaty which gave the Gamsen area (originally part of Remsfalen-Lüningen and thus part of Blönland from 1854-1862) back to the Kingdom of Remsfalen but finalized Blönland's claim on the rest of Remsfalen-Lüningen.
  • Throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries the personal union successively turned into a real union, finishing with the 1952 merger of the two parliaments of Blönland proper and Remsfalen-Lüningen.
  • Meanwhile as Blönland lost its possession of UL28h and finally of Saikyel  rivalry with the Kingdom of Remsfalen decreased amidst increasing fear of the southern countries (Izaland, Kojo, Pyokchin). Successive royal marriages and treaties fostered a partnership between Blönland and the Kingdom of Remsfalen-Lüningen and other Kalmish nations that culminated in the creation of the East Ulethan Community.
  • The big war in the 20th century was fought by Blönland and other Kalmish nations against Izaland and the other Asian nations.

East Ulethan Cooperation Organization (EUCO)

  • For East Ulethan Kalmish/European countries

    • Remsfalen
    • Luthesien
    • UL28a
    • Reelant (?)
    • countries in the Peninsula-Lantie zone (Recommending North Lantian Peninsula nations only, as Canterra is more Izaki-influenced than other countries)
    • Midistland
  • Possible observers/members if it is not limited to Kalmish countries:
    • Saikyel
    • Samane
    • UL28h
  • Possible types of cooperation:
    • Trade - reduced/no customs
    • Policing (reduced but not completely abolished border controls, visa-free travel for citizens of member countries, possibly partial or full mutual recognition of visas for aliens)
    • Defense (possibly a Kalmish NATO to protect against the Asian nations?)
    • Culture/Sports
      • Common soccer league
      • Every 4 years "Ulethan Games"

Border crossings

Road number in brackets

Legend: * = local traffic/East Ulethan organization only; ° = not open for 24 hours a day/not every day;

  • Bold and cursive = main/busiest crossings
  • Bold = busy, some overland traffic
  • Normal = typical countryside or secondary crossing
  • Cursive = possibly former/demolished or not present border crossings (road will be blocked with a barrier or a gate only the police are allowed to open instead)

List of crossings:

  • with Remsfalen:
    • A lot of small country roads because of rather flat terrain at most parts of the border, possibly many roads closed/blocked by the police to prevent smuggling. Border controls are reminiscent of pre-Schengen Europe and possibly US/Canada on the larger crossings.

Border controls are very strict (EU eastern border style) except with the WAA. There are a lot of duty free shops/casinos in the WAA probably.
