Kara
Hi!
I changed the name of the article to English version (without the diacritic) as the general policy is that the name should be given in the language used in the article rather than the native name (for example in English Wikipedia article about Germany would be under "Germany", not "Deutschland"). If for some reason it has to be given with dacritic, it can stay though. Best regards, Rustem Pasha (talk) 14:24, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm thinking I'll either change the name back to English (or it's translation to English). I appreciate the message :) —Unsigned comment by Anonymous21 (talk).
Flag
Hello! I hope you're having a great day. I saw your request to update the flag template. Normally, I would be happy to do it straightaway, but I do have to take pause in the current situation. Although I am not strict in my enforcement on the wiki, we do have a site policy about verisimilitude that comes into play here. I would strongly encourage you to consider revising the color scheme of the flag a bit—namely, the instances and juxtapositions of bright neon colors that might work on a computer screen but don't really on a flag. Having a single-color standard in the background would also go a long way to helping. I will tell you that this is something I've wrestled with in the past myself. Mauretia's flag had too neon of a yellow back on the old wiki, since my computer was old and didn't have a good rendering. Anyway, I'm not here to police flags down to the detail, but we do have a site policy that cannot be ignored in this instance. If you have questions or would like advice, I'm happy to offer some. Thanks! — Alessa (talk) 00:12, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Alessa: I can see what you're saying about the bright colors. I changed the background to a solid gray and toned down the colors so they aren't as bright. It's at https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/index.php/File:Karaflagrevised.png. What do you think?
- Thanks! Anonymous21 (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello! This is definitely better. And, thank you for uploading a newer version of a file (with the same name) rather than a separate file altogether. I would still encourage you to simplify it a bit, but this would work for now. The grey background could stand to be a little lighter (if not white), and consider using only two or three colors for the mandala-like figure in the center instead of six. Even so, that's for you to play around with here or there. If you do make changes, just upload a new version instead of a new file like you did this most recent time. Thanks! — Alessa (talk) 19:35, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestions! I changed the background color (I agree that it looks better that way). The colors are supposed to go fully across the color spectrum, if you will, and I figured that blocks of color would be better and more realistic than a gradient. Thanks so much for your help! - Anonymous21 (talk) 20:39, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Also, is there a way to add a license to a preexisting image by chance? - Anonymous21 (talk) 20:42, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
File names
Hello again. I forgot to mention that you should be careful when uploading files to the wiki that their names are something meaningful in some way rather than a gibberish of numbers and letters. I've renamed the "Svgfiles 2022-10-04-02-50-19-849798-1704072163049278158.svg" to File:Kara legislative diagram.svg for now. Please keep this in mind going forward. Also, keep in mind that categories must be added and a license selected. Please be sure to follow the instructions on the upload page. Thanks. — Alessa (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- Okay - I will do that in the future. I didn't know you could edit file names, so thanks for telling me that too! Anonymous21 (talk) 20:35, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
Karska
Hi! According to our Wiki policy pages about languages are not allowed yet. Given that I moved Karska page to your sandbox page where you can develop it until the policy change will happen. Rustem Pasha (talk) 12:35, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't know about that. Thanks for catching it! Anonymous21 (talk) 19:53, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
Sandboxes
Hello, Presently, you’ve created quite a few “sandbox” pages that are really masquerading as stub articles. Please note that the wiki policy instructs users not to do this—which people have tried to do as a way of skirting the policy about article creation. The short two-line stubs Kirek and Vezhek have been deleted. To preserve the content, the information has been moved to the territory’s article. If you wish to have regional language information, the place for this will be the main territory article or an article titled Culture of Kara. The latter allows for a full description of anything related to the culture of the territory, including religion, language, diet, attire, and more. The contents of the national anthem page should really be in this type of an article as well. In such an instance, there are also many ways we have of formatting the article so you can link directly to subsections and keep it looking clean. If you need help with that, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m more than happy to help. Happy mapping! — Alessa (talk) 14:27, 19 March 2023 (UTC) I just saw your wiki message. Sorry, I must have missed that earlier. And somehow I never thought of adding subsections, but that makes more sense than a bunch of stub articles. I will work on condensing the “sandbox” content onto the main territory page. I will let you know if I have any other questions or concerns. Also, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any as well. Thanks! -- Anonymous21 (talk) 00:04, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
File:SjangeSomAnStandardChoralVersion.png
I marked this file for deletion because it's too big to be displayed properly on the wiki. Please upload smaller version and remove the template if file is needed. Regards, Rustem Pasha (talk) 12:01, 25 March 2023 (UTC) Thanks for catching that. I have a different version of the file that is used on the wiki page, so I don't need this one. Please feel free to delete it. Thanks! Anonymous21 (talk) 21:16, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
AI Images
Hi, you have uploaded a bunch of AI generated images and have tagged them as having a PD licence. I believe that is incorrect, and puts OGF at risk.
Generally we would need to know the input terms and licensing of input images. However you also need to be cognisant of the terms you agreed to with the AI service - https://www.bing.com/new/termsofuse?FORM=GENTOS - clearly "Use of Creations ... you may use Creations outside the Online Services for any legal personal, non-commercial purpose" invalidates your claimed Public Domain. /wangi (talk) 10:06, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for catching that. I will change those to a license that reflects the non-commercial use aspect. Thanks! Anonymous21 (talk) 23:59, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- I went in and changed the license on all of the AI-generated images to cc-by-nc-sa. Again, thanks for catching that mistake on my part, and please let me know if there are any other issues/concerns. Thanks! — Anonymous21 (talk) 00:06, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
Files again
- Files should have license (and category). You've in fact broke OSM license by not linking the OSM in a way which allows to check who mapped places from screenshot.
- More importantly don't upload screenshots with little (1) to no modification (other 9). Links are enough in such cases. Images are relatively heavy objects which consume a lot of server space.
Having in mind the problems mentioned above I marked your recently uploaded files for deletion. Rustem Pasha (talk) 15:55, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for letting me know. I will keep that in mind for future reference. Anonymous21 (talk) 22:08, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
