Novakia/ Novakija Respublika Novarska/ República da Nováquia (Novarska, Florescentian) |
Loading map... |
Novakia is a country located in southeastern Tarephia, bordering Brasonia and
Luslandia, its "brother lands" in the former Gran Luslandia Kingdom.
Its capital is Slovech, but the most populated city is Markovburg.
Its main port is located in Rostom, west Slovech. It was moved to this location in 1975. Before, the old port was located in current Navy place in Slovech capital.
Novakia is composed by 4 provinces.
Its official languages are Novakian and Florescentian.
The former name of the country was Belgravia, so, still there are some places and even companies mentioning this name till current days, as a homage.
As TA121b is a very old country (it was in my second territory, and I am OGF-user since 2014), the initial historic background of the country does not make so much sense in current days. As Brasonia and Luslandia was settled by people from Florescenta, that still exists, Novakia/ Belgravia was settled by people from Slavonia and Schwaldia, that no longer exists in OGF. (it happened circa 1500). It explains the conlang used in the country, hehehe.
Yes, I know that a slavic country in this part of the continent does not fit well, but as both neighbor countries are mine, it will not a problem to me and I dont see any reason to move it to Egalia region or somewhere like it.
Keep in mind that I am an old-school OGF user (remember, since 2014 hehehe), so, I am from a time that RW countries related was not an option, and conlangs was stimulated. So, looks like this is my hidden place in OGF hehehe.
National Symbols
Flag and Coat of Arms
The national flag of Novakia was created by Andertz Wabrus (✩Bolgrad, 1735 - ✝Petrovach, 1802), in 1765. The design got some egalian inspiration, but using florescentian colours.
The coat of arms also was created by Andertz Wabrus. It uses some manual tools and a gear, symbolizing the hard work if the people, and an open book, symbolizing the learning and the knowledge. (TBD) used these pictures to represent the progress as a north of the new country.
The coat of arms was included in the green part of the national flag since 1790. Since then, there was not any change in the flag.
The coat of arms also includes a crown representing the royalty from Florescenta and the origin of the ulethan immigrants.
Unoficcial
The Green Eyed Owl (Strigidae Meridi Tarephiensis) (Novakian: Koruja Mestrija/ Florescentian: Coruja Mestra), is an owl specie from south Tarephia (Novakia, Brasonia and Luslandia) with bright lime green eyes as an unique feature in all OGF-World.
It is an unofficial national symbol of Novakia, as the first settlers was impressed seing it for the first time, and considered as a good luck feeling to the newcomers.
Some groups of immigrants linked the specie to a mythic creature from Ulethan pagan cultures, as a magical figure.
Currently, the image of Koruja Mestrija is seen in several stuff, as mascot if all sport confederations of the country, and also some banknotes.
Also mentioning, "Green Eyed Owl" is the "world name" to the specie, but the literal translate to the original names in novakian and florescentian is "Master Owl".
Subnational symbols
There are flags only to provinces, and there are coat of arms only to theplaces with status of city.
There is not any type of official graphic stuff to other municipalities or adminstrative divisions in Novakia.

Administrative divisions in Novakia
Novakia is divided in 3 provinces (provintz). The provinces are divided into 15 districts (distrikts), subdivided in municipalities (5 cities and 42 towns), subdivided in neighborhoods (no official counting needed).
Usually, only the province capitals got the status of "city", and the other municipalities are "towns". Exception to Brunsvik, that is a "twin city" to Staneck, the province capital, and to Grebis, as Volgrenija is "almost" the fourth novakian province.
NOTE: Under a national law, each municipality needs to keep at least a townhall, a gas station, a police station, a fire department, a school, and an hospital.
NOTE: Despite a correct translation as "Commerce", the novakian word "Kommertz" is used as "Downtown" in novakian cities and towns, exactly because downtowns usually are the commercial core to their cities and towns.

Demographics
Ethnicities
Language
Initially colonized by florescentian speakers as all southern Tarephia, the current novakian territory was also settled by immigrants from other parts of Uletha.
These immigrants spoke kalmish and slavonian languages. So, they start creating a conlang to help them to comunicate as those groups decided to settle the same area, close to (futere name) Novakia river. Around 1700, this new language was totallu stabilshed and got status as official to the country.
Around 37% of the novakian vocabulary comes from florescentian language.
Novakian
Novakian is a conlang, almost a florescentian speech with kalmish and egalian sounds.
The language uses the latin alphabet, except the letter X, being replaced by "KS".
The letter C is used before H and I, rarely before E "(Centurijon, Cevcenko, Central, Florescentija)", K "(Staneck)", T "(Octavia)", U "(Circus)" and Z ("Svarcz"), and never before A, O, or other letter. Also, must be considered few foreigner words, like "club" are used in novakian lands.
The letter G sounds always like in "get", not like in "german", no matter wich wowel is following.
The letter J is a semivowel, usually between the letter I and A, and sometimes between I and O or U.
The letters W and Y are very rarely used (but not banned - yet), being usually replaced by V and I, respectively.
The letter Z can sound like a letter J sometimes.
There are only three accentuations present in vowels. Ä and Ë, both sounding like "É", and Ü, almost sounding like a "Í".
The suffix "-ija" is very used in novakian, replacing the suffixes "-ism" and "-ion" in ingrean, and "-ismo" and "-ão" in florescentian.
NOTE: The word "Wödmea" is accepted as a novakian company name just because it is a name of a foreigner family investing in Novakia, even using "Ö".
NOTE: "Danjanach" is accepetd as a novakian neighborhood name just because it is a name of a foreigner family investing in Novakia, even using "J" not following an "I".
NOTE: The novakian world wide known hotels "Mitropolia" is not "Mitropolija" because since the beginning there was the idea to internacionalize the brand.
NOTE: Despite novakians uses "zemland" as "country/ nation", they rarely use "zemlandsko" as "national", prefering to use exactly "national" due its similarity to the florescentian language used in neighbor countries.
Florescentian
Florescentian is the second language in Novakia. It was the only oficial one before the country indepenence. Currently, as novakians always try to keep a national identity, they prefer to speak novakian, but are also good speakers of the florescentian language, specially the brasonian dialect.
Other
Kalmish, surian and drabatian still are spoken in some villages, but not as an official status.

Highways

Also, there are "Rotas" (roads), also very important to the national system but in a lower status. Usually, rotas are under province level, but some of them are under national importance.
Maximum speed in magistralas are 110km/h to cars and 90km/h to heavy vehicles, and in rotas, are 90km/h to cars and 80km/h to heavy vehicles.

Baseball and individual sports out of athletics, like boxing, tennis, swimming, equestrian, sailing, etc, does not have their own federations, being ruled directly by the Komite Novarsko Sportivo.
Usually, all national teams plays with all-white kits, wearing green jersey with red shorts or pants and socks as second kit.

Motorsports
Novakians like motorsports very much. Be it turismo, formula, rally, superbike, motocross, truck racing, or even the unusual demolition derby. Novakians are considered so gearhead that there is a saturated meme in southern Tarephia about novakians putting wheels and a motor in everything as possible.
The Federacija Novarska d'Avtomobilija rules all motorsports in Novakia. It is confederated to CGLA - Confederação Gran-Luslandesa de Automobilismo (Gran Luslandese Motorsports Confederation), as part to some international racing leagues in southern Tarephia.
Currently, there are two internationaly certified raceways in Novakia (Westerdam and Vardau), another one nationaly certified (Brunsvik) and several drag strips along the country.
Novakians are fanatic fans to the motorsports teams located in the country, as usual people do about football (soccer) in other countries. Each racing team keeps stock car, truck, rally, formula, motocross and superbike divisions.
Currently there are five registered racing teams able to compete in regional and international leagues.
Svarczman, headquartered in St.Theo, Slovech-MT, runs under black and gold colours. It is easily considered the most victoriuos racing team and also got the biggest fan base in Novakia. Its headquarter is modern, and keeps a museum and a souvenir store.
Petard, headquartered in St.Titus, Brunsvik-RV, runs under dark blue and silver colours. It is the bigger rival to Svarczman. Keeps its own raceway, around a low used airstrip in Brunsvik.
Zvotmir, headquartered in Markovburg, runs under dark blue and yellow colours.
Evoluks, headquartered in Rostom, runs under lime green and blue colours. It is the "local rival" to Svarczman. Keeps a motocross/ rallycross raceway.
Bratkar, headquartered in the town with same name, near Grebis, runs under garnet and silver colours.
Destruction Derby
A controversal motorsport in Novakia is demolition derby. Seen as a dangerous sport, despite rarely a driver or even a fan get injured, demolotion derbies are very popular in rural and suburban areas, but also there are arenas in the main cities of the country.
(TBD)
Football
Football is by far the most popular sport in Novakia.
The national team and all levels of the clubs league are ruled by Federacija Novarska d'Futebol, located in Slovech-MT.
