AR060-14 - The Meredies

The archipelago is made of three main islands, along with numerous smaller islands. The three main islands are all quite steep, with the tallest hills reaching over 500m. While in a southerly temperate part of the world, the Meredies has a microclimate influenced by the surrounding sea causing high numbers of sunlight hours and an almost Mediterranean climate. Before settlement, all of the islands would have been covered in native bush, much of which is still left protected today.

The bulk of inspiration will be taken from islands off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand such as Hamilton Island, Magnetic Island, Great Barrier Island, Kawau Island and Waiheke Island. There will also be some influences from other coastal regions such as the Coromandel Peninsula and Byron Bay. In the rural areas of the islands there is still sheep farming but the agricultural sector is strongly diversified with lots of vineyards or olive groves as well as distilleries. Tourism is however the strongest industry, which has been the case since the decline of the founding industry of mining, whaling, gum digging and deforesting. However fishing is also strong. I am wondering and will discuss with the Deodeca community whether we could possibly have New Plymouth style natural gas influences. There will be a population density of around 100 people per km2, causing an overall population of about 115,000 people. The territory would have been colonized by Ingerland in the 1830s, with the only Western settlement before that having been whalers, sealers and missionaries. The indigenous people speak are inspired by the Ktunaxa from Canada. The province will speak Ingerish, as well as naming influences from it's native Ktunaxa.

While I'm not an admin, I take it you want to map in the style of Australia/New Zealand. Well, I recommend going for a province in Deodeca. Deodeca is a place for Commonwealth-inspired mapping and a place like the Meredies. If you want to map on the mainland, consider applying for AR060-16∈⊾. If you want to map on an archipelago, consider applying for AR060-14∈⊾.

- Hi Singapura-Oriental, I second Lemuria in recommending the Deodeca project for you. As the coordinator of Ingerish Asperia (a collaborative province within Deodeca), Australia and NZ are the primary influences on the province. Your detailing work is outstanding and if you would like to consider joining the Ingerish Asperia collaborative, I think you will find it a place that suits your NZ/Aus style mapping. Hi Team, Thanks for this. I'd think about making an application for AR060-16 but have two questions. Firstly, would it be possible to have a more Australia-New Zealand style province here, as the Deodeca collab page suggests these Western regions are more Canadian? Secondly, would it be possible for an area settled that much later than the other areas or I would need to make it be settled earlier? Thanks again for all your help. - Hi, sounds good. Australia/NZ style for the islands would be fine, as we plan on the western mainland provinces to more Canadian focussed. Secondly, we can help you to develop a lore/historical reason for the islands being settled/established later on than the rest of the country. We were thinking that the islands were purchased from nearby Ambrosia at a later date and as such were not developed until then. - Gidday, I think the size and scope of AR060-14 is really good for a first territory for me. I'd aim to take main inspiration from Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island as well as other Hauraki Gulf Islands (eg Kawau), Norfolk Island, the Chathams and some of the Whitsundays. One thing I can do is put some very touristic French influence (from Ambrosia) in in a similar style to the NZ town of Akaroa. In saying that, I'll make an application soon. - Hello again, Singapura! (1) I noticed that you forgot to sign your post, so do use four tildes ~~~~ to do that, and (2) if you've decided that you want to map in AR060-14, you can go ahead and change the page title by clicking on "More" to the right at the top, or here. Just replace "Unknown" with "AR060-14" and you should be good to go. As for Deodeca's other mappers, they are still discussing how The Meredies can be worked into Deodeca's lore on AR060-14. I'm not a significant member of the Deodeca project though, just a (very insignificant) member of Collab:Agawaskway, so I won't be part of the discussions. Hi, please add a sketch which details the natural and man made geography, along with making it clear how the proposal compares to the existing mapping. I have added a sketch in the application above. In terms of existing mapping, some of the proposal does compare to existing mapping in terms of settlement location, so maybe we can retain some of the layout from this. Otherwise, I'd lean towards making the mapping available for others mappers to use in their territory, which I believe is done in other applications. - Please make sure the sketch includes the natural mapping plans, more than just a few rivers. I'd like a precise understanding of where the existing mapping is going to be a) deleted b) incorporated or c) used as-is. I don't think any of the mapping should be moved or offered to others. - Gidday, the link has been updated with three new colours. Dark green areas are highly wilderness (native bush), light green dots are summits or peaks and purple encircled areas are the areas of existing map that I want to incorporate into my territory.
