|
Franqueterre's name has been long debated if suitable for the country. Members have expressed both likes and dislikes of the name, particularly due to its connection to the real world country France (Franque - France). With that, I (Bixelkoven) have decided to initiate the discussion for the name change of the country. Anyone is welcome to suggest a name idea.

So from I have quickly gathered, La France is the general name for France in French, coming from Francia, but the actual transition being made because of Ilê-de-France, which though I was not able to find, I believe is just a slight change of sound, seing how Modern French generally doesn't pronounce the last letter, Francia would be Franci, which sound close to France, it's clear its a slight change on vowels, but the moment that happened isnt very clear to me. Still, this is just to get us on the same page. The name France we know comes from the Franks, and most languages either call France a variation of: France, Land of the French or a variation of Gaul (i.e. Greek calling it Gallia). That being said, there is a "clear" origin in a germanic word that was latinized and evolved. Austrasia is the original land of the franks, even though Franks called it Oster Reik (yes like Austria). So I guess we have a few options to go from, either a name derived from a latinized Celtic name, a latinized germanic name or we follow a new path that isn't either one. I will give my proposals from this ideas. Davieerr (talk) 00:04, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- A little premature, but I would like to propose a name for the capital city as well: « Bourderoi », coming from the term « Bourg de Roi ». --- Thanks, Zekiel (talk) 15:01, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- I second the proposal made by Davieerr. I feel a name derived from an indigenous group would best justify any potential name's etymology. I feel as if either a Celtic, Germanic, or some derivative would best suit the region. -- Geoc3ladus (talk) 18:19, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
